THE PEOPLE

Meet our team

Amy Macfarlane

Owner / Interior Designer
Amy Macfarlane is an Interior Designer, holding a degree from the University of Iowa in Design & Housing, and a minor in Art History. As a longtime entrepreneur and Sioux City advocate, her work is rooted in a love for meaningful spaces and the stories behind them. After returning to Sioux City from Evanston, IL, in the mid-’90s, she launched Lifestyle Design & Consign LLC, combining professional interior design with an upscale collection of furniture, décor, antiques, and one-of-a-kind finds. Her approach is centered on creating spaces that feel personal, layered, and reflective of the people who live in them.
Beyond design, Amy is deeply connected to the Siouxland community. She has spent years supporting historic preservation efforts, local organizations, and community initiatives, while continuing to grow her creative ventures, including Refurb the Curb, which focuses on improving and refreshing home exteriors. Through every chapter of her career, Amy has remained passionate about helping people see the potential in their homes, preserving the character of meaningful places, and creating spaces that truly feel like home.

Julie Kellen

Consignment Coordinator
Julie Kellen serves as the Consignment Coordinator at Lifestyle Design and Consign, where she applies her passion for giving preowned furniture and home decor a second life. In this role, Julie meticulously evaluates each piece’s quality and leverages her extensive background in fine collectibles—including furniture, dishes, art, and accents—to establish competitive, market-driven pricing.
“I absolutely love looking at the photos our consignors send and figuring out how I can make these items work in our showroom,” Julie says.
She backs up her experience from a former life spent traveling across the country hunting for rare finds at estate sales and antique shops. This seasoned perspective allows Julie to effectively assist clients in decluttering their spaces while maximizing the financial return on their investments. With a background in estate sales and interior design, she is particularly adept at thinking outside the box, offering thoughtful considerations to ensure a successful second life for every piece in the showroom. Her goal is always to help clients earn top dollar for their consignments.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Julie enjoys traveling with her husband, Sonny, spending half of their time as snowbirds in Arizona. She is also an avid reader, a Mah-Jong enthusiast, a well-recognized fashion diva, and loves snuggling with her beloved Schnauzer, Sophie.

Sue Stanek

Design Consultant
Sue Stanek was one of the first ‘regulars’ at Lifestyle Design & Consign, and ironically, the first Design Consultant to ‘come aboard’ on payroll. Sue reflects, “I remember learning about this shop at a Cabi Party Karen Roos was throwing, and Amy and I became acquainted. It wasn’t long after that I accepted a job offer to work at my favorite shop in Sioux City.” Sue absolutely lives for the new treasures that filter into the shop each week, and she is very clever about blending them in with exisiting vignettes. Sue has great vision.
Sue and her husband, Shawn, were high school sweethearts. Sue laughs, “I married the love of my life and we brought 4 rotten children into the world… We’re now blessed to have 7 happy, funny and smart grandchildren”.
In a former life, Shawn and Sue co-owned the Hardee’s Restaurant chain here in Sioux City, but sold the business in 2020, during Covid.
Anyone who know the Stanek’s also know they are Heelan and Notre Dame people!
Their heaven on earth is definitely Lake Okoboji, where they have a summer home they hit every weekend. In the warmer months, you can find Sue working on Thursdays, and in the cooler months, you can find her working in the shop most Saturdays. (unless Notre Dame is playing!)
Sue always contends, “We live in the greatest country on earth and I am very proud of that.”. God is most important to Sue and she feels that it is because of Him, that she has such a wonderful life.

Karen Roos

Design Consultant
At Lifestyle Design and Consignment, Karen Roos is affectionately referred to as the shops’ “Indentured Servant”. She laughs saying, “It is so much fun to assist customers in the shop and in the process, I often talk myself into things I just can’t live without!”
Karen was born, raised, educated in Lincoln, NE, and is a rabid fan of Big Red Volleyball, Football, Baseball and Gymnastics.
We are lucky to have Karen, as she is a very busy person, being very active in the Siouxland community.
Karen is best known, in many circles, for her role as a Cabi Clothing Stylist, and features seasonal trunk shows at Lifestiyle Design and Consign throughout the year.
Being an avid fitness guru, Karen leads Aqua Fitness, Cardio and Strength Training classes at Dakota Dunes Country Club.
She also volunteers her services with CASA of Iowa, and is a cheerful addition to First United Methodist, and their “Church Care Cupboard”
Karen and her husband, Randy, who are lovers of history, enjoy travel to all 4 corners, with a soft-spot for European River Cruises.
She notes, “bike riding and spending time with friends and family, and our four grandchildren, completes our life”.
Karen, previously had a career with State Farm Insurance, handling complex injury claims. She laughs, “assisting at Lifestyle Design and Consign has opened a new world of creativity, style and design I did not have in the insurance industry!
